Super Bowl Chinese Restaurant

Super Bowl Chinese Restaurant
41 Dixon St. Haymarket, Sydney 2000

First things first: I'm a congee virgin, or, was until a recent trip to Super Bowl Restaurant in the heart of Sydney's Chinatown. I've heard about it, read about it, and generally felt impassive about what can essentially be referred to as a form of gruel... or rice porridge to put it more lightly.

Well, my recent obsession with Chinese food, particularly the mountainous quantities in which it is served, coupled with the enthusiasm of my gruel-loving (read: rice porridge-loving and all around fantastically awesome) partner led us straight to the 'Bowl to dive into the first of what will surely be many bowls of Congee to follow.

The "Jucy" err... "Juicy Lucy"

Home Cooking: The Juicy Lucy -  cheese-stuffed hamburger

Call me a monster, call me repulsive, distasteful, a lunatic without boundaries... but I didn't make this up. This is a real thing, a zany serious creation from the burger-loving kitchens of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Besides, it may just as well be referred to as a regular cheeseburger, if not for only one important difference. The cheese comes from within.
the cheese is aliiiiiiive...

Mexico via Manly

Mexico Via Manly
Approx. 32 South Steyne, Manly NSW

Mexico via Manly, stepping out from the shadow of Montezuma's?
Hola mis amigos, Miguel here to tell you about one of the latest restaurantes de mexicanos in this here ciudad, "Mexico via Manly" (edit: It's actually been there for quite a while now, but my growing backlog of reviews has gotten the better of me). It seems like every week a new mexican joint opens in Sydney, and considering that a few years ago "Montezuma's" was the closest thing we had to mexican outside of my house, that's entirely a good thing.

Looks empty, but we were in early for the Cinema Hour Special
Radio Cairo is that same old restaurant you pass by, constantly promising yourself that you'll "get there some day", but never do.

Hikaru Japanese Restaurant

Hikaru Japanese Restaurant
134 King Street, Newtown 2042

The promise of Hikaru Japanese Restaurant in Newtown is immense. A quaint courtyard just off the hustle-and-bustle of King Street, with outdoor seating and a large sunlit dining area. The menu is an exciting read not only for it's diverse selection but it's attractive prices as well. Most lunch items range from the $7-10 mark but some, like the vegetable curry, even limbo as low as $6. The first thought to pop in my head was *gasp* could this possibly be the Inner West equivalent to Neutral Bay's wonderful Kabocha? Grub-for-grub, maybe not, but there may be hope yet.
